Overview
Venture into the striking semi arid landscapes of Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. This three day safari focuses on finding the Samburu Special Five, rare species not found in the southern parks: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebra, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk. The lifeblood of this reserve is the Ewaso Nyiro River, drawing large numbers of elephants, leopards, and crocodiles. The unique culture of the local Samburu people adds another fascinating dimension to this tour.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Drive North across the Equator to Samburu
Leaving Nairobi, you will drive north past Mount Kenya and cross the equator line into the northern hemisphere. The scenery dramatically changes as you enter the semi arid scrublands of Samburu. You will arrive in time for lunch at your lodge along the riverbank. In the late afternoon, you will head out for a game drive to seek out the unique northern wildlife species.

Day 2
Full Day Game Viewing in Samburu National Reserve
You will spend the entire day exploring the Samburu, Buffalo Springs, and Shaba reserves. You will trace the winding Ewaso Nyiro River, observing huge herds of elephants coming to drink and bathe. You will keep a keen eye out for leopards resting in the large acacia trees. The landscape provides stunning photographic opportunities with its red soil and doum palms.

Day 3
Final Morning Safari and Departure
Enjoy a final early morning game drive to catch the animals while they are still active. After breakfast, you will check out and begin the drive back to Nairobi, carrying memories of the unique wildlife of the Kenyan north.
